Child's Play by Phoebe Gloeckner

Underground autobiography

I've been looking for a collection of Gloeckner's stories ever since I read some of her stories in Pox many years ago, so this book was a blessing. Really good autobiographic stories, quite gruesome, what with all the men using her, but still not too depressing. Managing that is a small miracle, considering what's she's been through...

I like her drawings, too, which are done in different styles, never realistic, always exquisite. Reading that she has an M.A. in Medical Illustration didn't really come as a big surprise. I think her drawings are not everyone's cup of tea, but I can assure you they grow on you.
