Caravan Kidd by Johji Manabe

Space & soap opera the manga way

Fun, entertaining manga, which has the kind of genre mix which I really like, with some seriousness (not much), some suspense (quite a lot) and some comedy (really a lot).

The story is definitely conventional manga, with a small group of people (one fighter, one average person and one comic relief) taking on a mighty empire. Of course, this being Manabe, there are no traditional villains since all the main persons (excepting the comic relief guy) have rather complex motivations.

All in all, I enjoyed it (heck, I've reread it a couple of times) very much, with just one small complaint: Manabe's Outlanders, released earlier does everything this one does but much better, especially the more serious parts; at least I get tears in my eyes every time I read it.
