The Sweet Collection by Leland Myrick

Poetry with a smile

One of those "Let's try something new"-reads of mine. I didn't know anything about it when I bought it, pure speculation, but it turned out good.

Short stories about people and relationships, thankfully avoiding both the twist end you see coming a mile before and the dreariness and dullness that e.g. Optic Nerve by Tomine almost always fall into.

The stories are sweet, all dealing with love with a fine balance between sentimentality and reality. The drawings are just OK, while being a little bit. They were close to being annoying in their stiffness, but thanks to their charm they managed to fullfill their purpose.

I am going to buy the next book by Myrick, when I see it.
